Underwater Photography

Underwater, you do not compose a photograph so much as negotiate with buoyancy, light, teeming sea life, and your own heartbeat. Holding a large camera rig with both a huge dome on the front and powerful strobes on either side, stretched out like skinny arms, is a feat that is complicated further by the need to be neutrally buoyant and ready to propel forward to capture that perfect shot of a slick and quick moray eel or squid at any moment.

The Underwater Photography gallery mostly documents dives in the Caribbean, but features a few from South Africa, as well.  I'm showing gorgeous cenote diving — flooded limestone caverns where daylight arrives as a single blade at midday — plus open-water reef work and pool-based commercial shoots.
